$1 Million Worth of Jewelry Stolen From Cannes Film Festival Hotel Room
A future heist film now has its plot!
On the same day that The Bling Ring — a movie about high school students who break into the homes of celebs to steal their designer swag — premiered at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, more than $1 million worth of Chopard jewelry was stolen from a Cannes hotel.
The police service in Nice confirmed the Thursday theft to Deadline, and French media reports claim it happened in the room of a Chopard employee at the Suite Novotel hotel. The room’s safe was ripped out and removed; it contained jewelry that was meant to be worn by stars in town for Cannes.
Jennifer Lawrence is at Cannes this year, and even though it’s not clear if any of those jewels were meant for her, she wore a long Chopard necklace (backwards, remember?) at the 2013 Oscars, and the New York Post claimed earlier this year that JLaw got $100,000 from Chopard to wear its jewels to the Golden Globes.
