The only thing getting us through this lengthy Glee hiatus is knowing that when the show returns on February 25, 2014 with Season 5, Episode 9, “Frenemies”, we’ll be that much closer to the show’s highly-anticipated 100th episode, which is scheduled to air on March 18, 2014.
In honor of this huge milestone, the folks over at Glee are changing things up a bit and allowing fans to pick ten songs (from a list of 30) that have already been performed throughout the show’s first four plus seasons to be redone during the groundbreaking 100th.
Chris Colfer (Kurt) already said that he hopes to cover “Defying Gravity” again since he has “less face” now, but Chris’s co-star Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) has a different idea. Harry, along with many other original cast members has signed on for Glee’s 100th and hopes to get a second chance to perform a Queen classic.
The actor tells In Touch, “Somebody to Love’ is still my favorite, from Queen,” he told the mag. “It was that moment where we felt like it was really special. Previously we didn’t understand and we were just like, ‘Oh this is a show and it’s fun.’ But there, we realized, this is a special group and even outside the cast, the crew and everyone.”
The moving tune was first performed on Glee way back during Season 1, Episode 5, “The Rhodes Not Taken”, but Harry has an idea on how the cast can twist that classic and make it fresh and unique for the 100th. “I also think it would be funny to do ‘Somebody to Love’ [by] Justin Bieber, because that was just ridiculous,” he said of the tune the cast covered in Season 2. “That was when [Chord Overstreet] got really into dancing. He’s always asking me for advice, like, ‘Is this a good body roll?’”
Regardless of what songs get chosen, Harry is just psyched to be returning to the show and reuniting with many of his old co-workers. “I’ll be back, along with most of the original cast. I think almost everyone,” he said. “I’m excited to come back, I have absolutely no clue what’s in store.”
