Vampire Diaries 100th Episode Spoilers: Michael Trevino Will Return!

Guess who’s definitely coming to town for tonight’s 100th episode of The Vampire Diaries?! Entertainment Weekly has confirmed that Michael Trevino (aka the oh-so-sad hybrid Tyler Lockwood) will be back in Season 5, Episode 11 (“500 Years of Solitude”). How’s that for a 100th episode delight? Keep ‘em coming, TVD!

Though we know that Tyler will be back — and stick around for at least a few episodes — we’re still unclear on the nature of his return. When we last saw him, he had failed in his revenge plot against Klaus on The Originals and was sent to “The Garden,” the gruesome basement of Marcel’s French Quarter compound in which supernatural traitors, enemies, or people who look at Marcel and Klaus the wrong way are bricked in to suffer for a few decades or so. How did Tyler get out?!

Of course, the wily hybrid could have escaped (we’re still waiting for the hybrids to live up to their considerable hype), but we’d lean towards a facilitated exit —aka someone let him go. Could it have been Klaus, who we know will also be returning for tonight’s episode? This makes some sense, given that Klaus is currently co-captain of the French Quarter and now has access to “The Garden.” It also makes sense given what we know about Klaus’ potential exploits in the ep: some scandalous business with Caroline, initiated by Caroline. This doesn’t seem in line with her previous policy on kissing Klaus, so something must have changed. Perhaps, the Original proved his love for her by safely returning her ex-boyfriend? Kind of embarrassing for Tyler; kind of classy for Klaus.

How do you think Tyler escaped “The Garden”? And how will Caroline react to his return? Sound off in the comments below!

Catch the next episode of The Vampire Diaries on Thursday, January 23, 2014 at 8 p.m. ET on the CW, followed by an all-new episode of Reign.
