‘13 Reasons Why’ Actor Christian Navarro Admits He Was a Middle School Bully
The cast of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why has been very vocal about the importance of discussing suicide and bullying behavior — even if that means opening up about their own past mistakes.
Christian Navarro’s Tony is a nice guy without question.
That’s why Hannah trusted him with her tapes and it’s why he ultimately came forward with them to her parents in the end.
But Christian's journey to become that person IRL was a bit complicated.
The 25-year-old actor admitted to POPSUGAR that he used to be a bit of a bad boy, before finally getting with the program.
“[I] was a bully in middle school. But then I got to high school and cut all that nonsense out."
Before you judge too harshly, the actor assures us he totally learned his lesson. "People didn't like me. Right? If you're a jerk, people don't like you.”
He continues, “We all want to belong to a community, so I figured the best way to do that was to stop being a jerk. Be nice, start listening to people, be empathetic. It's worked out for me."
Sadly, young Christian did have his reasons for becoming so mean in the first place.
“I'm not the tallest guy. So growing up, I was bullied. In middle school I was bullied.”
This led the future actor to protect himself by any means necessary. “I learned pretty quickly that, if you bully, you don't get bullied.”
It’s truly amazing to see someone take such a painful experience and use it to help others in need.
Good on you, Christian.
13 Reasons Why is currently streaming on Netflix.
