Big Brother 16 Premiere Ratings Improve Over Season 15!

We totally saw this one coming, but Big Brother ratings for Season 16’s premiere topped last year’s numbers. How much did the show improve over last year? Read on to find out!

According to Zap2it, last night’s premiere brought in 6.64 million viewers and garnered a 2.3 rating in the key 18-49 demo, helping CBS win the night overall. Last season — now infamous for racist and bigoted remarks made by some of the houseguests on-camera — earned a 2.2 in the demo, meaning this year saw a slight uptick. Not too crazy, but moving in the right direction.

As we mentioned, there was so much attention given to last season that increased viewership was almost guaranteed for this season, though we honestly would have expected a bigger jump. At least the actions of a few houseguests didn’t negatively impact the show going forward. It could have spelled disaster for this season had people decided to hold the show responsible for what went down last summer, but we’re glad to see that the loyal fans have stuck with it!

Tonight, the second group of eight competitors moves into the Big Brother house and will compete in another Head of Household competition. Hopefully Julie Chen will give us some more intel on this season’s twists and we can finally understand what sort of a ride we’re in for this summer.

Are you surprised the ratings improved year-over-year? Hit the comments and sound off!
