Sure, they do it for the shot of fame rejuvenation that often leads them to exciting career prospects. But they also do it for the money. The celebs on DWTS get $200,000 for the entire season, a top TV agent told The Wrap in 2009, whether they're booted or not. They also get a bonus of $100,00 if they're number one, a smaller bonus if they're number two and an even smaller bonus if they're number 3.
The show only lasts 10 weeks — although that's not counting 4-5 weeks of hard training before the season premiere. Still, that's at least $200,000 even if you only get through one dance. (So don't cry too hard for Shannen Doherty.)
That sounds like a good amount of $$ for a short period of time, but back in 2006, Season 2 winner Drew Lachey complained that the pay sucks. He says, "It’s kind of ridiculous. In terms of TV and for the ratings that the show gets, it’s ridiculous."
Yeah, try selling that story to the girl behind the counter next time you want to buy a cup of coffee.
Anyway, check out these Season 7 estimates from The Wrap:
$200,000 + $100,000 bonus
$200,000 + $50,000 bonus
$200,000 + $25,000 bonus
FIRST BOOTED OFF
Yes, but Jeffrey had to wear an eyepatch because Edyta poked him in the eye before they even had their first dance. That alone deserves a bonus!
