Pretty Little Liars

Inside the Pretty Little Liars Theme Song

You may already be familiar with The Pierces, the hip folk-rock duo whose song, "Secret," creepyily affects you during the opening credits of Pretty Little Liars. But The Pierces also have a connection to another hit show to which Pretty Little Liars has been compared Gossip Girl!

In 2007, The Pierces performed "Secret" during the first dance at the Debutante Ball in Season 1, Episode 10 of Gossip Girl. This was their first major television appearance, even though sisters Allison and Catherine Pierce have actually been working in the music industry for over a decade! They released their self-titled debut album in 2000, and their sophomore effort in 2004. An article in the Village Voice describes how they "got lost in the industry shuffle, scrambling to find the right sound." For their third album, Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge, The Pierces adopted an edgier sound, using an eclectic variety of instruments layered over haunting melodies and pop-rock hooks. The album was a critical success when it was released in 2007, but still failed to launch The Pierces as a big name.

Now, three years later, "Secret" is being trotted out again for Pretty Little Liars. With all the hype surrounding the show, the girls might finally get the recognition they deserve!
