Finally, a Glee cast member with an Emmy-worthy hairstyle! Jessalyn Gilsig's Nicole Miller dress may not have been our favorite of the evening (it was a little too safe), but we were in total awe of her red carpet-ready updo. The simple summery swept back look allowed her sun-kissed face and gold Chopard earrings to be the center of attention. When we think Emmys hair, we think fancier than everyday life. Jessalyn pulled that off perfectly, without distracting from her overall beauty. We might even like Terri Schuester a bit more if she wore her hair like this on Glee. Might.
Dianna Agron appeared to be completely flawless while walking down the red carpet last night. We weren't the biggest fans of her Carolina Herrera dress, as we thought it had a bit too much going on (what happened to the fun cheerleader we know and love?). But her makeup actually had us loving her look, despite the dress. And that’s a difficult thing for a star to do. Dianna kept her makeup super simple, which is the best technique when you have skin as beautiful as hers. Her dark eyeliner made her eyes pop against the contrast of her absolutely porcelain skin. And her pink lips brought out the color on her cheeks, making her look radiant and youthful. With makeup that amazing, who needs the perfect dress?
The cast of Glee may not have brought home as many awards as we hoped at last night's Emmy Awards, but they sure did shine on the red carpet. And create a huge buzz of enthusiasm during their opening number with Jimmy Fallon! (We’ve totally been watching it over and over.) From the dresses to the hair to the makeup, we couldn't stop checking out the ladies of Glee. Their looks weren't all totally awards-show worthy, but even the misses weren't enough to disappoint us too much. And we have a feeling this cast will have many more red carpets to walk down in their future!
Jane finally took off her Sue Sylvester tracksuits and put on a gorgeous deep purple Ali Rahimi gown. So, maybe it would be asking too much, but we really wanted to her makeup to match her glam look. Okay, okay, we give her enough credit for the dress. And it's not like she wasn't wearing any makeup, because she definitely had a major smokey eye going on, with some blush and pink lipstick. But the smokiness didn't make her eyes pop and the lipstick was a little too muted for us. But don't get us wrong, Jane looked fabulous on stage as she accepted her Best Supporting Actress Emmy Award!
First off, we must say that Jayma Mays looked absolutely adorable as she strolled down the red carpet in her navy blue Burberry dress. We really can't complain much except to say we wish her stylist had thought to give her hair a little red carpet vavoom! Here we are at the Emmy Awards and it looks like Jayma simply straightened her hair and flipped the ends. And um, she and her stylists must have forgotten hair product because we spotted frizz everywhere. From a distance, Jayma looked almost flawless, but when you took a closer look it was clear how much good some smoothing gel and a bottle of hairspray would have done her. Jayma's look was lovely, but it could have been taken to a whole other level with the right hairstyle.
Going into last night, we fully expected Lea Michele (Rachel) to have the best dress of not only the entire Glee cast, but of most everyone else on the red carpet. And girl didn't disappoint. It seems to us that Lea has the very same perfectionist gene as her character Rachel Berry, because she looked absolutely flawless. While we were initially hoping the Glee star would choose a bright, youthful color, we think her choice to go with navy blue was the right one. The Oscar de la Renta dress with a sweetheart neckline fit Lea's body just perfectly, enabling her to show off her new even slimmer figure. (Side note: Lea, please don’t lose any more weight! You’re beginning to worry us!) The bottom of the dress expanded into a beautiful cascade of ruffles, adding a hint of flamenco-ness. If navy blue becomes a major color trend this fall (hint: it will), it will be thanks in part to Lea Michele.
It's not that we hated Jenna Ushowitz's dress — it’s just that we were bored by it. Maybe it's partly because we're obsessed with Jenna's out-there style as Tina on Glee, or maybe it's because Jenna is only 24 years old. But Jenna's red Kevin Hall halter dress was way too mature for this young starlet. We get the feeling Jenna is trying to show the world that she's not really a high school student; she just plays one on television. But we’re aching for this beauty to take some more fashion risks. Thankfully, her side-swept hair and bright makeup more than made up for the ho-hum dress.
