Did you feel like you were different from the other girls because you were from New York?
That affected my personality, obviously. The truth is that people from New York are more… not on top of things, but straight to the point and we try to stay away from bulls***. I feel like all those girls were very dramatic and I guess it was good for them because they knew it was a reality show and that’s what would keep them on the show — to just be completely fake and just jump in front of the camera and do crazy stuff. I’m not there to be an actress, I’m there to model, so if that wasn’t good enough then so be it.
Who do you think was acting?
Everybody was acting. One girl even said, “Oh, I want to be stupid. I want to sound dumb because I just feel like that will make me look better.”
Have you kept in touch with any of the girls? Do you want to?
I have a couple of the girls’ numbers but no, I haven’t really bothered with that. I have my people in my life that I keep close.
Was the runway in the sky scary?
It really wasn’t. If you close your eyes, I mean, obviously don’t close your eyes, but if you close your eyes you couldn’t really tell [you were high up]. It was like you were walking on the ground. Girls were making it a lot bigger deal than it was. You’re on a harness, you have a lot of space to walk on. It doesn’t look like you have a lot of space but you’re not on a tight rope where you can’t balance yourself. You just walk in a straight line — you’re not drunk or anything. It wasn’t a big deal. It was cool. It was really cool.
What do you think was your most embarrassing moment?
Probably when we were doing the photo shoot posing and the way that the camera had it on my ribs. The way that you’re pulling your body, you take someone who’s a thicker frame and they’re pulling their arms this way or that way or bending that way, their bones will show. You take someone who’s already thin, and it just looks a lot worse than it is. I didn’t care that I was eliminated because I was skinny (because obviously I knew before the show aired why I was eliminated), but to watch that [on TV] was horrible. And to have all these people watching it and my family and they see me and they see how I am and then they see the show and they’re like, “what is going on?” To the people that don’t know me and don’t know that I do hold a healthy lifestyle and I am healthy, I just look like a sick b*tch. That’s really what I do not want myself to come off as whatsoever.
Have you taken any of the judges’ advice about your weight to heart since the show?
I have gained weight, but basically it’s because I’m back to my diet. Before I went on the show that’s how I was and I was eating how I wanted to eat. Everything is the balance. When I got there, everything was off balance — the stress from the show, and it was those pounds that I lost were crucial. For a thicker person, you can’t really notice three pounds, for someone who’s that thin, you can see it already everywhere. But now I’m back to normal and everything is fine.
So you think you lost more weight when you got to the show?
I did. I didn’t lose it for the show and that’s what they made it seem like — like I was trying to get even thinner for the show, that’s not the point. I obviously didn’t need to get any thinner.
On the show they did not mention that you lost weight due to the stress of being there.
Yeah, they didn’t show a lot of things.
Were you shocked you were in the bottom two?
I knew it. Once they had told us our critiques, I knew. I was hoping to be in the bottom two and I was hoping to go home. I really did feel like a guinea pig. They were trying to make me look bad and I didn’t need that. That’s how I felt.
What was the biggest lesson you learned?
Never do reality TV. Be happy with yourself and as long as you’re happy with yourself and if you’re healthy, that’s all that should matter.
Is your advice to girls who want to go on Top Model, “just don’t do it"?
I mean, if you really want to be on reality TV, go for it... but I wouldn’t recommend it. That’s just me.
What‘s your advice for girls who really want to get on the show?
Have something different about you that’s gonna make you stand out from everybody, give you a fan base, and make the judges like you. Just be a camera whore, I guess. That’s the word.
Who are you rooting for now?
I really hope Jane wins. I felt like she was the only one who had potential.
What are your plans for the future? Are you gonna keep modeling?
Yes, I took a semester off this year to pursue modeling and if it doesn’t work out, I’m going to go back to school and will probably cook.
Recap of Episode 15.2 "Diane von Furstenberg"
Anamaria was the first finalist to be sent packing this season on ANTM after spitting some serious game. Tyra and the judges made an example out of her skinniness at panel, but it was hard to disagree with their decision after seeing just how thin Anamaria was during the photo shoot, even compared to Ann, the model with the smallest waist on planet Earth. We chatted with Ann about being embarrassed on national TV, how difficult it was to watch the episode, and what's next for her. Hint: her career path may involve a lot of food.
What was it like watching yourself on TV?
This week it was rather disappointing. The way that it was put together didn’t make me seem like the best person in the world, but what are you gonna do? Overall it was a great experience. I will always remember this. It’s not like “Oh, I wish I never did it.” I’m glad I did it and I’m happy it turned out the way it did. I would not have had it any different. It was a lot of fun.
Did you feel like you were unfairly judged?
I felt that they had a right reason, I guess, but they picked me on a show and they knew what I looked like. The whole dialogue wasn’t in my favor. I guess I had lost a little extra more [weight] than I had wanted to. I was off balance. They just made me look like something that I’m not, which I didn’t really appreciate, which is why I was happy to get off the show. If they’re sitting there telling me “Oh, you’re way too skinny, you’re way too this, you’re unhealthy,” I know I’m healthy. I didn’t even care anymore. The other girls needed it more than I did.
You mention on the show that you were on a calorie-restricted diet.
No, it’s not a calorie-restricted, it’s calorie maintenance. I’m not sitting there having a donut and two minutes later having a chicken sandwich and an hour later having this and having that. You can’t sit there and stuff your face, unfortunately. Yeah, I count my calories, it’s the truth, and I’m happy that I do that. I keep my diet balanced and healthy and I don’t have to worry about going to the gym to burn off an extra few pounds. I balance everything and it’s how I feel it should be. Everyone else has their own thing.
Do you regret anything you said on TV? Do you think they were making out to be the villain?
Yeah, but I’m not going to doubt that I said any of that, obviously. But when they cut off the sentence that was said before or the sentence that was said after, you can look like a bad person, but whatever. I looked like a cocky, sick b*tch. What are you gonna do? I was cocky, I was very confident in myself, I will not lie about that. They did not bother to put in where I said “as long as you look in the mirror and you’re happy with yourself, be happy with your own body and no matter what anybody tells you, don’t change for anyone, as long as your happy with yourself, and as long as you’re healthy, that’s all that matters.”
