We’ve heard all the big spoilers already, but the cast of Grey’s Anatomy is leaking some juicy deets on the big premiere.
Owen and Cristina’s surprise wedding will take place in Meredith’s house in a flashback sequence. In real time, we’ll see the couple constantly questioning their decision. But romance-phobes can relax. The mantra “besties before testes” is in full effect this season. We won’t see MerDer and Cristina/Owen trying to out-sap each other. Ellen Pompeo assures fans, "The love story is really Cristina and Meredith." Good. We like Meredith/Cristina bedroom scenes best anyway.
The Owen/Yang wedding inspires Callie to pop a “life-altering question” to Arizona, but, as we already know, Jessica Capshaw’s pregnancy won’t be written into the show. Says Capshaw of her baby bump, “This is below a counter, in back of an X-ray, hidden by a big file. This baby is camera-shy." Thumbs down from us, but we’re sure Callie will crack Arizona’s baby phobia eventually.
Back at the hospital, everyone’s done lost their minds after the Season 6 shoot-out. "There's a little too much change there and Meredith is worried about Cristina's stability," Ellen Pompeo says of Cristina's work ethic after her nuptials. "All of a sudden, she doesn't want to do surgery; she's not the same Cristina Yang. She doesn't have the same ambition, and she's looking through bridal magazines."
We see Derek flip-flop on his desire to be chief, yet again. "He goes back to doing his first love, which is surgery," Patrick Dempsey says. "I don't think he's at all interested in managing the hospital. He wanted it, but then the realities of the job were just too much for him, and it was too distracting." Some story lines never die, eh, Shonda?
Teddy moves on from newlywed Owen to shacking up with Seattle Grace’s new grief counselor. "The Teddy part of me is extremely sad [that it's over], but I think it's an interesting place for her to go … and see how she deals with relationships," Kim Raver says. Yeah, but is this guy going to eat chocolate off you like McSteamy did? Didn’t think so. Not everyone takes so well to the new guy, though, Pompeo dishes, “[Perkins] comes in and he's just clearing people and he doesn't really know them. Meredith feels like she knows them, and she really knows that they're not OK."
Among the traumatized are once shunned Mercy West doctors, Jackson and April, who will finally be accepted into the group when they bunk with the rest of the gang living in Grey Manor. April’s admittedly nonthreatening crush on Derek apparently fizzles, since Pompeo offers, "Meredith will accept April in order to get the audience to accept her.”
We can’t wait to see how it all comes together. Tune in September 23rd to ABC for the action-packed season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy.
