America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10 winner Whitney Thompson stirred up quite the controversy this summer working on the Hollywood Chapter of the National Organization for Women’s Love Your Body Campaign. She posed nude for a campaign photoshoot alongside Hollywood NOW’s president Chenise Lewis, also a plus-sized model. Critics immediately spoke out against the provocative images, claiming that they were offensive and pornographic. Says Lewis, “I was shocked when I read the blogs and found very derogatory and offensive homophobic comments about our pictures, a few individuals even refused to publish our pictures because in their opinion they looked too ‘gay’. I was totally shocked since I had never experienced that type of discrimination before.” We’re not even entirely sure what “too gay” means, but clearly these bloggers have never seen an ep of Top Model or, you know, cracked open a book of art.
But, the girls are biting back. The bogus controversy stirred up by the nude photos inspired the bodacious babes to do another shoot together, this time, for the NOH8 Campaign. The Campaign speaks out against California’s Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in the state. Thompson and Lewis sported the NOH8 logos on their faces as well as on their bodies to protest against both the ban on gay marriage and self-hate. Thompson is actually slated to be the celeb host of Hollywood NOW’s Love Your Body Day festivities this October 23rd. Fierce, Ms. Thompson. The Jays would be proud.
