Gossip Girl

Trend Watch: Sensible Satchels

We all know that the ladies of Gossip Girl have enough secrets to fill more than a couple of suitcases, but we noticed on Episode 4.4, “A Touch of Eva,” that the girls have been lugging their baggage with them. Since broken hearts and unresolved tensions are ubiquitous on the show, we mean this in the literal sense — that is, their bags are roomy. We love the look of a structured leather bag, but sometimes the price points can send us right back to our canvas totes. Inspired by the gossip gals’ carryalls, we went on a mission to find some affordable alternatives. Here’s what we found!

You’d think a sleuth would have to drag more things around with them when tracking a new target, but Blair has become quite the expert over the last few years. No wonder she managed to dig up all the dirt on Eva with just what she could fit into this little black bowler bag. Get your hands on a chic ombre version for $88:

An itty-bitty clutch seems like it would match with the itty-bitty skirt Serena is working here, but we love the beat-up brow shopper that she chose to pair it with instead. It continues to play up the sexy-demure juxtaposition, making this a perfect day to night look. Check out a similar style from The Sak for $75.99:

We’ve loved this bag since we first spied it on Eva in Paris, and now that she’s gone we only wish she would have mentioned where she bought it. Still, we managed to rustle up a Topshop rendition for $80:
