Sad news today from The Bachelorette world. Former Bachelorette Season 5 contestant Julien Hug, 35, was found dead Wednesday in a remote area in the San Bernadino National Forest. After Hug was reported missing several days before, the Riverside County Sheriff's Department and San Diego police located his car on a Forest Service access road. An autopsy has yet to be performed, and the cause of his death is still under investigation. Officials do not suspect foul play.
Season 5 Bachelorette Jillian Harristweeted her reaction today: "Please say a prayer for the loss of a friend this morning. Life is fragile, don't forget to love the ones you love." In Julien's intro sequence on The Bachelorette, he drove a Lamborghini and gushed about his love of skydiving. But in Episode 5.2, he received the third-most votes for the guy the other bachelors wanted out of the house, right behind Juan Barbieri and Bachelor Pad winner Dave Good. Julien didn't get a date that week — or a rose at the end of the episode.
Ranch & Coast, a San Diego magazine, ran bios for both Julien and fellow San Diego contestant Kiptyn Locke before the Season 5 premiere. Of Julien they wrote, "With his movie star handsome looks, it is little wonder that local hunk Julien Hug would wind up in primetime. But then, the 34-year-old Torrey Pines grad has a good pedigree. His mother, Denise, a former model, is still a showstopper. And father, Bertrand, is the ebullient French owner of the acclaimed Mille Fleurs, the Rancho Santa Fe restaurant that helped put San Diego on the culinary map. Julien has managed Mille Fleurs since Papa Hug opened Bertrand at Mister A's a few years back. The younger Hug is no stranger to the business — he started out working in his dad's restaurant when he was just 15. Called 'Jules' by his friends, the six-foot-two Hug likes to sky dive — with more than 500 jumps to his credit. 'The sense of freedom that comes from skydiving is a big thrill,' he said on the season opener of The Bachelorette, which prominently featured him jumping out of a plane and driving a very racy red sports car. As for Harris, Hug likes what he sees. 'Jillian and Julien together forever,' he said. 'That sounds great.'"
Kiptyn also tweeted about the news: "Sad news last night of a lost friend. A reminder to appreciate every day & tell those around u they are loved. Today I'm celebrating life."
