The best part about being a star on Glee? It has to be the perks. Take Cory Monteith (Finn), who was once just a regular ol' Canadian and now will get to host the Geminis this weekend. What are the Geminis? The Canadian version of the Emmys!
"I'm over the moon (to be hosting the Geminis)," Monteith said in a recent phone interview. "It was a real 'pinch me' moment when they asked me to host."
It wasn't as easy as saying yes though; Cory had to make sure it was okay with his Glee overlords. "I begged and begged to get the time off, so I could host," Monteith says. Thankfully, an agreement was worked out.
Cory was born in Calgary, Canada, and moved to Victoria when he was a child. After dropping out of school and working a bunch of odd jobs, the 28-year-old tried his hand at acting. When it came time to Glee, he really went Method. "Basically, the pilot came up and my manager suggested I send a tape because the character made sense," says Monteith. "(So) I decided to send a tape of myself playing the drums instead of singing, which I think got a few people's attention because it was different."
"I could always sing, but I never had any experience, so I had to get some coaching and figure out what song would be good to sing, and I just kind of dove into it and it kind of worked out."
