Gleek Off! Cover Contest: “Umbrella”

It turns out the cast members of Glee aren't the only people who do amazing covers of the songs we love. Each week, we'll choose our two favorite YouTube covers of a song performed on Glee, and let you decide which of the two is best. You'll be doing your part to make someone a star... while simultaneously crushing the other person's dreams! (You should be ashamed. How do you sleep at night?) Now it’s time for you to rock the vote.

From “The Substitute”: Rihanna’s “Umbrella”

Boy, can she belt it! That’s what we felt listening to this cover from Rafem. With female vocals plus acoustic guitar accompaniment, this is a great folk version of the song. But will someone please buy these people chairs, so they don’t have to sit on the bed?

And for the male perspective we turn to bendeignan. This fun version features acoustic guitar and gives the song a funk-inflected flavor. Plus, we love the vocal flourishes and runs that he adds to the song! We believe him that he really does want us to stand under his umbrella. Ella.
