Candice Accola and Michael Trevino on the Brewing Love Triangle Between Matt, Caroline, and Tyler
So what about Caroline and Tyler? Although the actors wouldn’t give specific deets about the blossoming relationship, Candice did say she believes almost all relationships start with being pals. “What I think is so wonderful about any romantic relationship, in my opinion, there's usually some sort of friendship that starts that off," she said. And although Caroline and Tyler’s friendship is undeniably strange, there’s still a serious (supernatural) bond there.
When the interviewer asked Candice who she’d rather see Caroline with, she quipped: “I think Joshua Jackson should come to Mystic Falls and Caroline should be with Pacey," she said. Very funny, Candice!
First of all, what about Matt (Zach Roerig)? Caroline’s ex beau, who also happens to be Tyler’s best friend, is still totally hung up on Caroline. Over the next couple episodes, the actors said Matt starts to sense that Caroline and Tyler are connecting and leaving him out of things. Keep in mind, though, that Matt doesn’t know anything about the existence of vampires or werewolves in Mystic Falls — so he has no clue how big or important the “things” Caroline and Tyler share are. Regardless, he starts to poke around and investigate — creating a “dynamic of questioning and wondering” between the trio, according to Michael.
But unfortunately for Matt, we all know no matter how hard he tries to figure out what the heck is going on, he’ll never quite get the whole supernatural experience his friends are having. "There are certain experiences that happen in someone's life that bring people together that wouldn't normally really have anything in common," Candice said. "And as much as you can try to relate, and try to relate, sometimes you just can't. I think that's going to be a big obstacle in the Caroline/Matt relationship." Poor guy.
We’ve been slowly watching Caroline and Tyler warm up to each other over the past few episodes — and although we totally get why the two are bonding (I mean, Caroline did basically save his life!), it does seem to bring up quite a few questions.
