Anatomy of an Outfit: Gwyneth Paltrow’s “Forget You” Ensemble

Raise your hand if you wanted to be Gwyneth Paltrow (Holly) after Episode 2.7, “The Substitute.” Yeah, us, too! We can’t all be movie stars with amazing bodies and voices, but we sure as heck can dress like one. We were all over Ms. Paltrow’s outfits in this episode, and our favorite was the simple yet totally chic ensemble she wore while singing “Forget You” with the glee club (check out the outfit - and Gwyneth's full performance - here).

Take that amazing skirt, for instance. It’s a $425 flannel piece with leather embellishments from Boy by Band of Outsiders. If only! Thankfully, we found a worthy substitute for $60, complete with fun pockets and cool zippers. (See our doppelganger look below.)

Ms. Paltrow tucked a black turtleneck with buttoned elbow sleeves into her flannel skirt, and finished the look with thigh high black leather boots. Note that she had no other accessories, but we’ve included some black and gold jewelry to tie the ensemble together and to accent the gold zippers on our skirt. Select basic and elegant accessories like these for a consistent look. If you go with a necklace, make sure it hits mid-chest or lower. Anything shorter looks silly with a turtleneck.

Ready to get in the Paltrow groove without spending your pants off? Here’s how:
