Best and Worst Fashion from Gossip Girl Season 4, Episode 11: “The Townie”
Who knew that of all the schemers, liars, and just plain evil lurking about the Upper East Side, Lily van der Woodsen would be the worst? By the end of “The Townie,” Lily had ascended to the top of a long list of ne’er-do-wells, leaving an odd amount of goodwill in the air. Many of the unlikeliest of characters reached unprecedented truces, leaving us feeling slightly confused. The structure of the show’s relationships might be shaken to the core, but luckily we’ve still got a solid foundation of fashion to fall back on. So who reaffirmed our sartorial beliefs and who was left wobbling on unsteady ground?
We’re not sure if she actually redeemed herself — she still looked kind of crazy even after the whole story was revealed — but she’s finally gotten some long overdue style points for a cozy striped sweater dress and knee boot combo.
We noticed Serena’s new overly chunky baubles last week too, but now it’s starting to look as if her stones are fighting gravity to stay around her neck. The monochromatic brown look on clothes and decor also makes this look a bit too bland for our tastes.
Perhaps it’s not fair to fault someone for a bad fashion look in high school, but we know these girls know how to dress, so this overdone prep school look is inexcusable, even if Serena probably was a bit high when she put it on.
