Castle Guest Star Laura Prepon Dishes on Kissing Nathan Fillion
During tonight’s new eppy of Castle, an old favorite makes a cameo. That 70’s Show's Laura Prepon shows up as Natalie Rhodes, a “cliche” Hollywood starlet hired to play Nikki Heat in the movie version of Richard Castle’s best-selling novel Heat Wave.
Prepon was a totally appropriate choice for a guest star (and we know how Castle producers love those!) When we think Laura Prepon, we think humor — which might explain why the actress felt super comfortable on the Castle set. "I love the show, and I love the people who run it and work on it," she gushes to TV Squad. We would, too if our lips got to graze Nathan Fillion’s!
And that they do. Prepon’s character Natalie shows up to shadow Beckett (who the character Nikki Heat is based on) to learn more about her. But the starlet ends up doing Beckett so well that even Castle gets himself a little confused! There’s tons of mixed emotions going on, according to Prepon. “There's a little bit of a love triangle thing going on,” she dishes. “If anything, it makes him [Castle] kind of realize that he's into Beckett or whatever. I don't want to give too much away but it's really cool.”
Prepon also dishes that her fondest memory on the Castle set was kissing Nathan Fillion (obvi) — but not for the reason you’d expect. Apparently, she totally botched the kiss. How so? Right before a rehearsal of the scene, an unknowing Prepon discovered some irresistible peanut butter pretzels on set and started nomming — which apparently didn't make for amazing kissing conditions. But both stars took the sitch in stride. “The next day he [Nathan] got me this huge, Costco-sized box of all these peanut butter pretzels and he was like, ‘This is for the next time you have a kissing scene so your costar has to know what I went through.’ It was so hilarious,” she says. “That's the type of people they are — they just joke around the whole time.”
But Prepon has a hard time picking the show’s ultimate funny guy. “Nathan is hilarious, and the whole side banter that goes on with Esposito and Ryan is hilarious. It's just so much fun. We had a blast,” she says.
So what’s up next for Prepon? Reading Richard Castle’s books (including Heat Wave) that showed up on her doorstep a few weeks too late. “I have both books at my house! They actually sent them to my house yesterday. I want to read them,” she says.
OK, well, while you’re reading, we’ll be leaning back in our La-Z-Boys checking you out on screen. Castle’s new episode airs tonight at 10/9c on ABC.
