Castle’s Susan Sullivan Dishes on Playing Molly Quinn’s Grandmother

The last thing we need to do around here is stroke Nathan Fillion’s ego (we do that enough already), but let’s be real: He and Stana Katic are the stars of Castle.

But that doesn’t mean there isn’t a ton of talent backing them up. Without awesome supporting characters like Esposito and Kevin Ryan, the show would fall flat.

That’s why we were super stoked to find this exclusive interview with two often overlooked Castle ladies, Susan Sullivan (Martha Rodgers, Castle’s mother) and Molly Quinn (Alexis Castle, his daughter) where the two Irish beauties talk the show, their characters and their love for each other.

Yep. There’s a whole lotta love in the Castle household, and even more off the set! Case-in-point: Susan motioned for Molly to join her in what started as a solo interview. Too cute.

First, Sullivan discusses her role on Castle, but it doesn’t take long for the subject to turn to her relationship with Molly. “It [her role] is perfect. She [Martha Rodgers] comes in, she says a couple of little quippy things, hopefully they’re amusing, and she leaves,” Sullivan says of her character. Sullivan also says despite not having “children out doing crazy things” like Castle, she draws inspiration from the other spectrum: her own mother.

But one of the “great gifts of being an actress” for childless Sullivan is being around the “brilliant, charming, beautiful and smart” Molly Quinn while filming, who “is being taken care of by someone else” at the end of the day. Sounds like a win-win to us.

And the adoration is totes mutual. “I love Susan as a person, and as my grandmother [on the show] it’s even better,” Molly gushes.
