The Skins US series premiere ratings tallies are in and sweet mambo, that Bryan Elsley's done it again… If you were worried about Skins US going anywhere, we think it's safe to say you can put those fears to rest. Skins US killed it!
3.26 million total viewers watched the preem on MTV last night. That's the most viewers in the 12-34 age range for a show launch in the network's history. Skins US beat out launches of shows going after similar series demographics in both cable AND network. The list of the fallen? Gossip Girl, The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries, 90210… The premiere of Skins US beat all of their show launches in this age group.
And the Internets are lighting up, too. The Skins US premiere was the #2 worldwide trending topic on Twitter, and #3 in the US.
So yeah, we'd say Bryan Elsley's Americanization of the popular British series, as well as MTV's bid for scripted programming, have both gone swimmingly thus far — at least in terms of ratings. But we never doubted them for a second, did we?
