Former Dancing with the Stars finalist Bristol Palin’s stance on abstinence doesn’t fly with students at Washington University in St. Louis... or with Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice star Kate Walsh. Bristol was scheduled to speak out about abstinence at the school, but after a small student uprising she’s been disinvited.
Upon hearing that Bristol would be speaking to college students, Kate Walsh tweeted, "Welcome to the Idiocracy! RT @elliekirsh: @katewalsh please join students at Wash.U. to boycott Bristol Palin's speech on abstinence. What does she know about college or abstaining?" Her concerns and the concerns of many of WashU's students were heard, especially by Scott Elman, president of the advisory committee, who cut the speech. Ouch! But he said the decision was "100 percent mutual" between Bristol and the committee and according to a University statement, “The message that they intended on sharing would be overshadowed by controversy.” Nice one, Kate Walsh. Way to burst Bristol's bubble.
Apparently the decision to cancel Palin’s appearance wasn’t made because of the fact that she didn’t practice abstinence, but because of her fee, which reportedly could have ran as high as a few thousand dollars.
"It's not necessarily in opposition to the ideas that are being presented," Philip Thomas, the student who started the protest said. "People are getting so angry because of the opposition to Palin's lack of expertise and the high cost she is charging.”
As for Kate Walsh's Twitter protest, conservatives are saying she and our nations leading liberals are the ones who should abstain from passing judgment. "The supposedly open-minded folks - continue to betray the very idea of the university as a place where students are exposed to all sorts of ideas," says Glenn Stanton, a spokesperson for Focus on the Family told Fox News. "We are finding that many of those on the left are the most rigid fundamentalists in culture today. They have it all figured out and have no patience for hearing an alternative voice." But Kate wouldn't just sit back and accept such criticism. She fired back, "I'm not attacking anyone, freedom to tw'eet. Isn't our country great? Or r YOU a communist? RT @Mark604YVR: @katewalsh @elliekirsh Why do you feel the need to attack this young lady? I'll boycott your mediocre show instead #FrustratedLiberalWomen."
Judging Kate's Twitter tact is one thing, but calling Private Practice mediocre? That's reprehensible!
