With a 1-year-old and a big-shot record producer husband at home, plus being midway through shooting her seventh season of Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo has the relaxation routine down pat, lest she go crazy. So how does Ellen unwind when she doffs her scrubs and heads home for the night? With a solid helping of reality TV. But don't judge.
Says Pompeo, "Honestly, I come home and I'm so tired, and I can't think — I've been memorizing lines, and saying medical jargon — all I want to do is veg out and crack up. [Husband] Chris [Ivery] will make dinner, and I'll come home, and we'll watch reality TV, and we'll just crack up."
As for her favorites, Real Housewives tops the list. "Those Housewives are over the top," Ellen squeals. "I have a lot of gay husbands, but I'm looking to make Andy [Cohen] my next one." Sigh. A woman after our own hearts.
"I'm coming for you, Andy Cohen!" she threatens. "I only have a couple gay New York husbands, so I think I need another one." Someone get this girl on Watch What Happens: Live, stat. She'll take a pinot on the rocks once at the Bravo Clubhouse.
One of her scripted favorites is Glee, but, Ellen admits that she can't quite figure out how they cope with the demands of a one-hour show, plus singing and dancing. "I think about the kids on Glee all the time," she says, while dishing that diet and exercise are her keys to not burning out. "I can't even imagine what they're going through, because they have to sing and dance and rehearse those numbers that they do flawlessly every week. A one-hour show is extremely demanding: it's very long hours; it's a lot of pressure; it's a test of endurance."
So, how does she survive besides the help of New Directions and Real Housewives? She makes time to hit the gym every single day, although, she admits, she's lucky enough to be one of those "genetically thin" girls. Ugh, okay, we may like her just a hair less now.
