Wetpaint Exclusive! Trista Sutter Chooses Her Ideal Bachelorette Candidate(s)
Unless you just stumbled out of a time machine, you know that Trista Sutter is the O.B. — Original Bachelorette. In between caring for her two young children with husband Ryan Sutter and supporting Ryan in his endurance races, Trista managed to find a few spare moments to catch us up on her life, what she thinks of The Bachelor these days, and her pick for the next Bachelorette!
Wetpaint: What are you up to these days?
Trista Sutter: Well, with two kids, that's easy: Everything that 2- and 3-year-old kids want to do. Of course, we have work and time with friends, but it's all about the kids these days!
WP: What are your thoughts on Brad's second season of The Bachelor? Have you been watching every week?
Trista: I'm loving this season... as I usually do. Lots of drama, lots of chemistry, and lots of memories relived for me. Of course, my guys weren't even close to being as dramatic as Brad's girls, but seeing their journey to love reminds me of the love I developed for Ryan. I watch every week, of course! I always do, and I always will!
WP: Who do you think will be the next Bachelorette?
Trista: I think there would be quite a few great Bachelorette options. Emily , Chantal, and Ashley S. from this season would be my choices, but it all depends on who Brad chooses — so we'll see. Then again, Gwen (Goia), Gia (Allemand), or Natalie (Getz) would be fabulous, too! Of course, I've always thought they should pluck someone out of obscurity, but I know that will never happen.
WP: Do you still keep in touch with fellow Bachelor/ette alumni?
Trista: I do. Amy and Shannon are still really good friends from my season and I've gotten to know lots of the young‘uns. They are all fabulous and as someone who's getting older, it's fun for me to live a younger life vicariously through them!
WP: We saw that Ryan participated in a slew of crazy races last year. Have you been training with him? If not, how do you stay fit — especially with two little ones?
Trista: Oh gosh no. Endurance events are not me, at all!! I'm really good at being the support team and love cheering him on, so it's all good. I think the two little ones part is exactly how I stay fit. Carrying 25 to 30 pounds around a lot of the day is great for the biceps and going up and down stairs helps my legs!
Trista: Loving a little person that you created out of the love with your husband is like nothing else.
WP: Why do you think the Bachelor and Bachelorette "success rate" is so low? Did you and Ryan just get lucky?
Trista: I think we did get "lucky,” and I can't say why others didn't work, but I know that we really like each other, beyond just the love that we feel. We are committed, we were ready, and we share similar values. I wish I had a magic potion though!
WP: Back on The Bachelorette, what did you like most about Ryan? Assuming that's changed, what do you appreciate most about him now?
Trista: Actually, the two things I liked most about Ryan haven't changed at all, and are the reasons I still love him to this day: How genuine he is and his gorgeous blue eyes. If I could add one more, in terms of what I love now, it would be what a wonderful father he is.
WP: If you could do it all over again, would you still do the televised wedding?
Trista: Most definitely! Our parents didn't have to spend a penny, we got to share a once in a lifetime experience with the people who mean the most to us in this world. And of course, I had every wedding dream come true. That said, I would do it inside a cathedral. Paparazzi helicopters suck!
WP: Who's your favorite Bachelorette (besides yourself)?
Trista: There is no way I can answer that! I have become friends with Jillian and Ali and Jen and I've loved all the fun times I've had with Jen.
WP: Who's your favorite Bachelor?
Trista: That one is incredibly difficult, too. As I'm sure you may have heard, everyone from the Bachelor/Bachelorette is a part of what we like to call a "family." I've met probably 99 percent of them so it's hard to single one out. I will say though that Bob Guiney, ever since the show, has always been a good friend. How's that for dodging a bullet?
