ANTM’s Freckle-Faced Dominique Dishes on Being Called a Giraffe in School
At some point in life, America's Next Top Model stopped being about launching modeling careers and started being about proving that weird-pretty girls could make decent models. Cue Tyra Banks' never-ending campaign to redefine the standard of beauty in the fashion industry.
She always embraced her freckles, but she did get made fun of for being so thin when she was younger: "They called me a giraffe, Olive Oyl, stick, bone."
Dominique didn't even audition for ANTM on her own; casting agents spotted her in a Houston mall and recruited her for the show, with zero runway or photographing experience. She admits she thought she was at a disadvantage because of her lack of experience, but, she certainly recovered with style when she wiped out during her first runway challenge — the crazily ill-conceived hamster ball on water show.
"I went down with a bang, so I knew I needed to get up with a bang," the sassy modeltestant defended. Hmm, if Ty-Ty could polish her into a slightly more graceful girl, dare we say, we might think she's got a shot at being on top?
