Exclusive: The Models Pay for Their Own Food on ANTM
On America's Next Top Model Cycle 16, Episode 2, Tyra and her nutrionist Heather Bauer made a surprise visit to the Model House to test the girls in a fun game of "Which is fatter?" What we learned (along with Tyra) is that eggplant parm is more fattening than spaghetti and meatballs. But what we really took away from this episode, thanks to a quick pan of the house, is that the girls have exercise equipment! Models + exercise + nutrition lessons = fierce.
We were very curious about the whole eating aspect of modeling and while we know that the girls have a say in what they eat during the show (see Ann Ward's fried Oreo obsession and Esther Petrack's Kosher eating habits), we didn't know that they are responsible for paying for their own food while they're there! Nicole Lucas, this week's castoff, spilled to us that, "They just give you a list and you have to fill out what you want and people get food for you and you give them your money, of course." We have also been told that the money the girls are using for food is part of their salary, so now we're not sure what to believe.
Isn't that, like, mean? We thought the perk of being on a reality show was living in a shiny house with lots of free stuff. But you know what's really mean? "The exercise machines were originally in the kitchen," Nicole told us. "We thought that was kind of funny that we're supposed to eat and work out at the same time." Yeah, that is funny. Or "fierce."
