Kate Walsh Tackles a Lesbian (Character in Her New Movie)
As it turns out, if you strip Kate Walsh of smoky eye makeup and a customarily sexy outfit, and throw her in some plaid, with a simple down 'do, well, she's still totally freakin' gorgeous. Shocker. Yes, Kate Walsh will toughen up her Old Hollywood vibe when she takes on the role of a "gruff, no nonsense" lesbian and artist, Jane, in her new flick, Angel's Crest.
The movie, premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 22nd, also stars Jeremy Piven and Mira Sorvino, as it follows the residents of a small town through a tragedy that disrupts their lives. Says Walsh of her character, "Jane was a great role for me to play and a real departure...I loved the character, and the relationship between her and her partner was really interesting to me."
Switching teams for a role is old hat for Walsh, though, who has played lesbian and transgender characters in films before. "I’m just drawn to the role and the character and if it happens to be lesbian or transgender, whatever," she says of the roles she slips into. "It’s the character and the relationship that really draws me to a project."
We totally dig the idea of quietly strong Walsh taking on a feisty role like this. And, of course, her tapping into some lady lovin' intrigues us, as well.
