Dancing With The Stars

Which DWTS Season 12 Celeb Has the Most Twitter Followers?

Who has the most Twitter followers on Dancing With the Stars Season 12? That’d be Kendra "I’m Really a Tomboy" Wilkinson with more than one million. Will it help her get to the end? We’ll see. It certainly won’t hurt.

As we’ve heard time and time again, the judges’s scores are only half the battle on DWTS. If fans want a couple to stick around, they have to vote. In the past few years, stars have rallied their fan bases through postings on Facebook and, especially, Twitter.

DWTS stars and pros post reminders to vote, twitpics and videos from rehearsals, personalized replies, thank-yous to fans and other stuff to get people motivated. Twitter has become important in the celebrity-verse as a whole, but especially on reality TV shows where the audience needs to weigh in. When it takes two seconds for a star to tweet “Click here to vote, guys” and add a link to the official ABC site, that can definitely help a star. And it can hurt if star/pro pairs don’t reach out like that or don’t have as many Twitter followers as, say, Kendra.

The current DWTS cast spoke to On the Red Carpet about their Twitter habits.

Kirstie Alley said she is completely addicted to Twitter and couldn’t even finish her interview without breaking out her phone to tweet something else. Petra Nemcova just started tweeting about four weeks ago. Louis van Amstel is semi-addicted to Twitter and likes it for the communication aspect of speaking to fans. Chelsie Hightower said Twitter can be addicting and admits she sometimes has to remind herself to put her phone down. Ralph Macchio & Karina Smirnoff both think they should tweet more. Sugar Ray Leonard says he’s an amateur with the whole thing — he’'s still on a typewriter, but his kids do Twitter and Facebook for him. Hines Ward says he does have Twitter, but he’s not obsessed and wouldn’t interrupt an interview to tweet. Kym Johnson says she has to get better about Twitter because it is a good way to get votes.

Wendy Williams is a professional communicator and prefers to talk on the phone and speak to people in person. "I think texting is for cowards," Wendy says, adding "I think that the art of communication is lost on social media and it's making a whole generation of people not able to have a conversation and look in one's eye. And at the end of the day, nothing can replace human-to-human contact. But I am on Twitter and Facebook!"
