Choreographer Laurieann Gibson Dishes on Lady Gaga’s New Video
So You Think You Can Dancechoreographer Laurieann Gibson has come a long way since her start as a Fly Girl on In Living Color. Besides her awesome SYTYCD routines, Laurieann also starred in P. Diddy's Making the Band, is a mentor and judge on Ryan Seacrest's new E! series, The Dance Scene, and is now the creative director for Lady Gaga. Yep, you could say she stays busy. Here's what she had to tell The Hollywood Reporter about directing Gaga's new video for her latest single, "Judas."
On her first experiences with Lady Gaga: "In the beginning, it was just me teaching her. I listened to the music and the lyrics, where she breaths and I showed her how to use the microphone, how to look out into the crowd, how to stay in the zone. These are things she had to learn, but she was so fearless."
On the "Judas" video's religious aspects: "It went through several changes and late-night debates because, at one point, there were two completely different views and I was like, 'Listen, I don't want lightning to strike me! I believe in the gospel and I'm not going there' … It's about the inspiration and to never give up… We've created a new Jerusalem."
On whether or not she would have walked away had the video interfered with her beliefs: "I would have been like, 'Goodbye, I ain't doing it. No way.' But the place it came to is really magical. And she's dancing her face off."
On the future of dance: "I think it's here to stay. You can't really stop such an amazing art form."
