American Idol Top 7 Power Rankings

Last week, we had to bid farewell to our #5 pick in last week’s power rankings, Paul McDonald. The week before, our #4 got the boot. This week, though, we’re totally getting it right. Here it is: your Top 7 power ranking!

Stefano Langone
This week’s ranking: 7 (Last week: 7)
Poor Stefano’s become something of a fixture in the bottom three, and we don’t expect this week to be any different. Unless he really sets the stage on fire Wednesday night, we think this Wild Card contestant’s time may be up.

Jacob Lusk
This week’s ranking: 6 (Last week: 8)
While we suspect he’s still hovering somewhere near the bottom, our guess is that the Lusky Stank will survive at least one more week. We don’t think Jacob has any shot of winning, honestly, but he could make it to the Top 5.

Haley Reinhart
This week’s ranking: 5 (Last week: 6)
We’d like to see Haley out of the bottom three, but we’re just not sure if it’ll happen — hopefully her trip to the Stools of Shame last week will spur voters into action. The good news is that if she performs well this Wednesday, we’re pretty sure she’ll escape elimination. Let’s hope so, anyway — just like Jennifer Lopez, we don’t want any more girls to go home yet.

Lauren Alaina
This week’s ranking: 4 (Last week: 3)
Lauren’s cover of Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb” was just fine, but we’d like to see her take a few risks in the weeks to come. After several consecutive ballads, Lauren could be edging into Pia territory, and we all know how that ended! She’s safe for now, but if she wants to move up our ranking, she’ll have to work for it.

Casey Abrams
This week’s ranking: 3 (Last week: 4)
We’re giving Casey a slight boost this week, because although his odd, jazzy cover of “Nature Boy” could easily have alienated voters, he avoided the Stools of Shame last week. Looks like the fans who almost let him slip away in 11th place have gotten their act together. Casey’s still a longshot to win, but we won’t count him out just yet.

James Durbin
This week’s ranking: 2 (Last week: 2)
Like Casey, James easily survived what could’ve been an off-putting performance last week, and standing up to Jimmy Iovine may have earned him some extra respect from voters. If he keeps it up, he could overtake our top-seeded contestant, but it won’t be easy, because #1 is...

Scotty McCreery
This week’s ranking: 1 (Last week: 1)
Nothing against Scotty, but we kind of wish he’d have an off week, just so we could slide him down the list for a change! As it stands now, the McCreery Express seems unstoppable. He’s got the vocal chops, he’s got a clear musical identity, and his fans include plenty of power-dialing and text-happy teens and tweens.
