Darren Criss’s Insider Scoop on the Warblers’ New Album

Glee’s all-Warblers album officially dropped on April 19. And just in case we weren’t excited enough already, Darren Criss (Warblers frontman Blaine Anderson) recently dished some behind-the-scenes details on a few of our favorite Warblers songs.

“Bills, Bills, Bills”
“That was really fun, just having a bunch of guys in blazers just going crazy, throwing pages around and just being completely bonkers.” But the song seemed a bit random and “out of left field” in the context of Glee’s Superbowl episode — and Darren worried it might be cut completely!

Luckily the song wasn’t cut, because we loved seeing the Warblers break out of their mold. “If you have to sing a cover of a Beyonce song, it’s not exactly an easy task,” Darren says before joking, “Sorry, Beyonce — if you’re watching this. I hope you’re slightly okay with me ruining a perfectly great song.”

A bunch of prep school boys singing Destiny’s Child? Oddly enough, we think it turned out just fine!

“Silly Love Songs”
Most of the Warblers scenes take place within Dalton Academy, so Darren enjoyed this opportunity to film with the rest of Glee’s cast, as well. “It was the first time that the Dalton kids were with the McKinley kids, at least in the same place. We were at Breadstix, and it all kind of revolved around each other.”

“When I Get You Alone”
Talk about a whirlwind! Darren finished recording “When I Get You Alone” in New York, hopped a plane to Los Angeles at about 3 AM, arrived at LAX, and then went straight to a local Gap store to shoot the performance scene. “That was just a trip,” he recalls. “My whole sense of time and space was thrown off.”
