Will Nathan Fillion Reprise His Role as Captain Hammer in Dr. Horrible Sequel?
Nathan Fillion (Castle) and producer Joss Whedon go way back. Long before Fillion was writing novels and fawning over leggy detectives, he was starring in Whedon’s Firefly (and the film adaptation, Serenity) as Captain Malcolm Reynolds. Later down the road, Whedon also tapped Fillion for a spot in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog as Captain Hammer. That’s twice now Fillion has played Captain for Whedon, and it sounds like the W-man wants him again. That’s loyalty, right there!
So, what’s Whedon got up his sleeve? The producer recently told Zap2It he’s gunning for a Dr. Horrible sequel! Actually, "gunning" is an understatement — Whedon dished the sequel is very much in the works, and it’s more a matter of when than if it happens. "We've got several songs near completion and we've got a very specific structure. We've just all got jobs," he says of himself, brothers Zack and Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen, who teamed up with the brothers to work on Dr. Horrible during the 07-08 writer’s strike.
OK, so Whedon didn’t ask for Fillion by name (yet), but what would a Dr. Horrible Sing-Along Part Deux be without its Captain? Would you like to see Fillion rehash his role in a Dr. Horrible continuation?
