Kandi Burruss Dishes on Working with Destiny’s Child

The Grammys started rolling in for Kandi Burruss after her R&B girl group Xscape broke up, and she moved on to songwriting. The Real Housewife of Atlanta penned TLC's "No Scrubs" which cleaned up at the 2000 Grammy Awards, but before the song was even released, she made another fateful collab with the most successful R&B girl group in history, Destiny's Child.

Kandi was the songwriting half of a highly successful musical duo, partnering with producer She'kspeare. The two first worked on "No Scrubs" before the opportunity came along to work with the ladies of Destiny's Child.

"For them, they were hungry, they were successful; for us we only had one song that had got played," Kandi recently revealed. "I don’t even think 'No Scrubs' was out yet when we agreed to work with them. They just knew that there was supposed to be this hit song that everyone was buzzing about."

Destiny's Child had released the marginally catchy "No, No, No" and were putting together their sophomore (and way more successful) album, The Writing's On the Wall. Kandi and She'kspeare put together some of the most popular singles on the record, including "Bills, Bills, Bills" and "Bug-a-Boo." In fact, the ex-boyfriend that inspired Kandi to write "No Scrubs" was the same guy who inspired "Bills, Bills, Bills," and that's not where the freaky coincidences end. One of the girls in Destiny's Child was dating same the guy WHILE they were working on the song with Kandi.

Said the Hotlanta Housewife, "I didn’t even tell her that some of the things I was saying was about this dude. It’s kinda funny. Him driving my car, using my phone — all that kinda stuff was true things that happened to me, but that happens a lot. I make fun of situations I’ve been in."

Sigh. Only a Real Housewife...

Seriously, though, hats off to Kandi for giving us some of the catchiest joints of the early 2000s. (Don't lie, you totally play "No Scrubs" on a jukebox every once and awhile...)
