Best and Worst Performances From Glee Season 2, Episode 17: “A Night of Neglect”
Glee manages to pack an insane number of songs into each episode, which means there will always be a few standouts along with the inevitable dud or two. We've narrowed the performances from “A Night of Neglect” down to the very best and the not-so-great. After all, not every Glee cover can be a bestseller on iTunes!
Best Performance of the Night: Eric Carmen’s “All By Myself” by Sunshine Corazon (Charice) We love Mercedes’s (Amber Riley) take on “Ain’t No Way,” but holy crap — Sunshine freakin’ blows the roof off the place! It hurts for us to reward the competition — and Sunshine can’t be as innocent as she seems — but let’s face it: The girl can sing. Who knew yet another version of this song could still be so affecting? (Just imagine if she were to sing a song we actually like.)
Worst Performance of the Night: Adele’s “Turning Tables” by Holly Holliday There’s no question we’re gonna miss Gwyneth Paltrow something fierce, but choosing this as her swan song is kinda like how Orson Welles’s final movie was the critically reviled Transformers animated movie from the mid-’80s. (Read: Not the best way to go out.) Her rendition is serviceable, but “serviceable” isn’t really going to cut it when you’re being compared to the unbelievably powerful and emotive vocals of Adele, who might have the most memorable voice of her generation.
Hopefully, Gwyneth will be back next season and do another song that blows us away! (And while we’re making requests, we’d love to see her again in that hilarious aerobics leotard, too. Long live Jazzercise!)
