Relive the Magic! Full Performances From Glee’s “Prom Queen”
We hardly remember our prom — call it selective memory — so we’ll just imagine it was much like Glee’s. At least in every musical way. Hot guys rockin’ out on stage, driving partiers into a dancing frenzie (Artie, Puck and Sam singing a version of “Friday” we didn’t *gasp* hate; Blaine singing “I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance With You”); an emotional, slow dance-friendly ballad heightening our teen angst (Rachel singing “Jar of Hearts”); and, of course, a disco-era tune giving us an excuse to bust out all those olden-timey moves our parents do after too many glasses of wine (Santana and Mercedes singing “Dancing Queen”). In Brittany’s words, “Best prom everrrrr.”
Though the musical buildup wasn’t anything to sniff at, either. Jesse St. James — self-absorbed and cute as ever — kills when he joins in on Rachel’s “simply outstanding” acoustic cover of “Rolling in the Deep.” But it’s Artie who had our hearts aflutter with his attempt to win Brittany back, singing Stevie Wonder’s “Isn’t She Lovely” in front of a swooning Home Ec. class. We don’t mind them staying broken up if it means more grand gestures like this one.
