Season Finale Shockers: It Will “Change the Course of Everyone’s Lives”

With TVD filming wrapped for the season, our favorite bloodsucking beauties finally have a minute to breathe. Sure, they might be working on other projects — Nina Dobrev (Elena/Katherine) has a role in The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Kat Graham (Bonnie) is busting out music videos like mad, and Ian Somerhalder (Damon) is saving the world, naturally — but for now, all is quiet in Mystic Falls. And if Nina Dobrev had her way, her characters — who are both consistently plagued with chaos — would find the same reprieve next season. Yes, fanggirls and boys, Nina’s ready for a break from the dramz! (But not the show. Don’t worry.)

“I’d love for her to smile a bit,” Nina says of her wishes for Elena come fall. She adds: “I know Vampire Diaries is intense and dramatic and people are dying, but I don’t know why they have to always be dying around Elena. Why she has to be the one always witnessing it or being affected by it.”

So will Elena get a reprieve from the drama in the season finale? Uh, don’t count on it. From the sounds of things, it’s going to be a doozy. “There’s not just one — there’s two or three kind of big twists that change the course of everyone’s lives, and they’re unexpected, “ Nina says. “It affects Damon and Elena hugely. It effects Stefan more than anyone would have imagined. Jeremy’s life is just completely turned around, and almost confusing — you’ll see why soon enough. But it initiates these storylines that will flourish in Season 3.”

With so many twists and turns, Nina’s worried all the melodrama will take its toll on Elena’s mental state. “She needs to lighten up because if she becomes this constantly crying character, it makes her weaker. She needs to begin to have a real life again, because right now she’s consumed by chaos,” she says. “There needs to be a light at the end of the tunnel. She needs to feel again, and have relationships again because everyone in her life has been suffering so much.”

We hear you, Nina. Elena is just a high school girl, after all. But we just don’t know if TVD would be the same without the crying (Elena is one of those girls who looks good doing anything), and staking, and torture!
