Why Did Bones Kill off Squintern Vincent Nigel-Murray?
We always knew Bones creator Hart Hanson had an evil streak in him. Come on, this is the same guy who has been keeping Booth (David Boreanaz) and Brennan (Emily Deschanel) apart for six seasons now. According to TVLine, while dishing on all things Bones at a Paley Center event earlier this week, Hart revealed his reason for doing something equally unforgivable: killing “a well-beloved character… [and] probably the favorite squint among the audience,” Vincent Nigel-Murray (Ryan Cartwright). “We decided to kill him for the heartbreak,” he spilled. Ouch!
But before you start drafting angry letters, the departure isn’t entirely attributable to Hart’s love of torturing his audience. The temporary lab assistant recently landed a full-time gig on Syfy’s new show, Alphas. Hart explained, “[H]e got a job. We knew [his exit] would happen before the end of this season, so the story has been in the works for a while. We knew that one of our squints, who are [played by] very, very talented actors, would get a job.”
It still doesn’t make the loss any less painful. Just ask Emily Deschanel, whose usually cerebral character wasn’t the only one affected by the Bones tragedy. “It’s just so heartbreaking. You love the character. You love the actor. I think he’s so talented,” she gushed.
It’s a bittersweet goodbye, but at least we know we’ll have Alphas to turn to when we’re feeling a little squint-sick for Mr. Nigel-Murray. Which channel is Syfy again?
