Vincent Nigel-Murray May Be Dead, but “There’s Always Reruns”
Vincent Nigel-Murray (Ryan Cartwright) is gone from Bones, but he’s not leaving the small screen entirely: He’s moving to Alphas, a new SyFy series. Although we’re happy for Ryan, we’re still sad for us — if it weren’t for this week’s Season 6 finale of Bones, we might have slipped into a mild depression.
However, we have to remind ourselves that our favorite factoid-spewing Brit didn’t take his last breaths on the show for nothing; his murder is the reason Brennan (Emily Deschanel) ended up in Booth’s (David Boreanaz) bed. At last!
In the wake of his character’s untimely passing, Vincent opened up to Entertainment Weekly about his new gig — and dying for a cause: “However I can help,” he said. “If that’s what it takes.”
Despite loving Bones, Ryan went into the role thinking his character was going to be a one-time thing. “Originally, [Vincent] was in one episode, and I was like, ‘Oh, that’s a great character.’ And since [then] it’s been a fantastic little Christmas gift every time he came back. I had no idea that it would blow up the way it did. It’s been fantastic for me.”
Not that his new show won’t be equally fantastic. “I play a guy called Gary Bell who’s an American and he’s a functioning autistic fella. And he has the ability to see any electromagnetic wavelengths, so he can read what’s on your cellphone, tell where people are, look through security cameras, and what not. It’s basically a group of us, the Alphas, who have these special abilities beyond the edges.”
Sounds a bit different from the guy we know and love, but Ryan reminds us if we find ourselves missing Vincent, “there’s always reruns.”
