Glee’s Brad Falchuk Addresses Season 2 Finale Cliffhangers
The second season of Gleeis officially a wrap, but just because it left a few juicy cliffhangers up for grabs doesn’t mean the showrunners are already thinking about Season 3. Just ask Brad Falchuk.
Glee’s executive producer tells Entertainment Weekly that while some things are certainly going to be revisited next season — like the Sam (Chord Overstreet) and Mercedes (Amber Riley) coupling (“We felt the chemistry there,” says Falchuck) — other storylines and characters, like Sunshine Corazon (Charice), are still up for debate. “We have some big plans for next year. It’s not worth getting into them because who knows? When we talk in September, everything I say will be different anyway. Don’t even bother. It’s a waste of time. That’s how we work. We have ideas and then we also wanna leave some room for a little discovery.”
Falchuk also discussed whether or not the time was right for Santana (Naya Rivera) to come out of the closet, as many fans were disappointed that it didn’t happen in “New York.” “When we [co-creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan] talked about doing that story and about her really being gay, it was a big conversation because it’s a big deal, “ explains Falchuck. “She’s a major character. We knew we were going to get some blowback, frankly. [...] We were so respectful on the Kurt [Chris Colfer] story and really have focused so much on that and the character and making the sure the struggle of a gay teen in Ohio was looked at. We wanted to do the same as this one.”
But for the most impatient of Gleeks, Brad assures: “[W]e’re going to get into it next season.”
