The dreaded So You Think You Can Dance injury curse has struck early this season. Its first victim? Twenty-year-old contemporary dancer Mitchell Kelly from Chicago.
“Yes, we’ve already had our first accident,” Nigel Lythgoe confirmed to XfinityTV. “Mitchell popped his shoulder. He can’t dance tomorrow. But his partner is who we’re worried about now so [Season 7’s] Robert Roldan is dancing in Mitchell’s place.”
Don't worry — Mitchell’s not being sent home ... yet. According to Nigel, he'll automatically be placed in the bottom four boys this week, and the judges will decide his fate depending on what they see from the other contestants. But he must compete next week or he will be eliminated.
In a recent conference call, we asked Mary Murphy if there would be more emphasis on injury prevention this season, especially after Alex Wong's unfortunate departure. She assured us these things are uncommon:
"There is always [emphasis on injury prevention], but that was kind of a rarity in his [Alex's] warm-up."
Hmm. Seems to us like these kids are getting a tad bit overworked.
