Sonya Tayeh Says This Top 20 Is the Best She’s Seen
The Futon Critic caught up with SYTYCD choreographer Sonya Tayeh after last week’s surprising results show, and asked about her thoughts on the judges’ decision. Certainly, Sonya doesn’t envy the difficult job of choosing two dancers each week to leave the show.
“They’re probably the best Top 20 I’ve seen," she admitted. "They’re amazing dancers, amazing humans, and so emotionally connected to everything. I love them all! I’m happy they are all staying."
From the moment she first met them, she was already dreaming up individualized choreography in her head. “I can imagine a lot of things for different ones. They all have certain character and certain mood. They are all really inspiring.”
Makes sense why Sonya's so pleased with the judges' decision to not send anyone home — she has another week to feed off this Top 20’s energy.
However, she knows what it means for this Thursday’s elimination show: Four dancers, instead of two, will be packing their bags and leaving the show. She explained how difficult it is to watch dancers go: “You create bonds with them as a choreographer.”
We too had to scrape our jaws off the floor when Nigel announced that no one was eliminated. But now the stakes are doubled, and the pressure is on everyone. Which four dancers will be going home this Thursday night?
