The Bachelor

Melissa Rycroft Talks Parenthood: “It’s Trying, It’s Tough, It’s Hard”

Breaking news! It’s not easy to raise a kid. Melissa Rycroft Strickland is now up to date with this intel, five months after giving birth to baby Ava Grace. The (original) winner of The Bachelor Season 13 and her hubby, Tye, were out on the town last week at the HTC EVO 3D launch party in West Hollywood.

"It's weird that we're having a date night out and we don't have our daughter with us," Melissa told Us Magazine. "We know she's in really good hands; it's just weird to be here."

Melissa went straight from Jason Mesnick’s Melissa!/Molly!/Melissa!/Molly! drama to Dancing With the Stars Season 8, where she took third place. At the end of that same year, December 2009, Mel married her old friend Tye. She went on to co-host Bachelor Pad Season 1 in the summer of 2010, and the show hit TVs right after she announced she was preggers with her first child.

"I am a firm believer that if your marriage can survive a newborn, you can survive pretty much anything!" Melissa told Us. "It's trying, it's tough, it's hard [to have a child]. You are operating on very little sleep with very little patience, but at the end of the day, it's [about] teamwork. You've got to do it together."

And now they are enjoying the upside of baby life, like the fact that Ava is talking all the time and even sleeping through the night. Plus, Melissa says, she is “a breath away from getting a tooth!”

Tye adds the sweetest words about their little princess, telling Us, "She's at the point now where she really recognizes us so when we walk in the room and she hears our voice she'll turn and smile. It's the best feeling in the world!"

Aww! Enjoy these moments while they last!
