Wren’s Back! Recap of Pretty Little Liars Season 2, Episode 3: “My Name is Trouble”
There were all kinds of surprises in this week's Pretty Little Liars, including the revelation there's a new girl in town named Anita! Well... sort of. Plus, it turns out that Emily (Shay Mitchell) is willing to go to extreme measures to avoid going to Texas. Somewhere, Davy Crockett just shed a single tear.
The episode, entitled "My Name is Trouble," begins with Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) unable to find her diamond wedding ring. Seriously, this girl loses everything. Meanwhile, Aria (Lucy Hale) is going to start attending a pottery class at Hollis, where Ezra now teaches. Stalker alert!
Toby (Keegan Allen) has been hired by Jason to help him build that new fence. (We're not trying to brag or anything, but we totally called that happening in last week's recap — just sayin'!) Toby needs the money to buy a new truck, but Spencer doesn't like the idea of him working with Jason, since she's convinced that Jason is hiding Ian upstairs. But what house on this show doesn't have someone lurking in the shadows?
Hanna (Ashley Benson), whose divorced parents are gettin' awfully flirty, spots Lucas Gottesman (Brendan Robinson) at school. When she agrees to help him with the yearbook, she realizes that he's totally crushing on the new yearbook hottie Danielle. So Hanna gets Lucas a date by making him sound like the best photographer since Ansel Adams. (Okay, so we don't think Ansel Adams was much of a lady-killer, but you get the point.)
The girls are getting suspicious of Jason — and rightly so, given his shady behavior. A flashback reveals that Ali didn't get along with Jason's friends, and that she had threatened to cut him out of their grandma's will. The girls wonder what role Jason may have played in her death, although — for the record — we were kind of wondering this, too. When Spencer goes to visit Toby at Jason's place, Jason accidentally calls her Melissa, prompting Spencer's realization that Melissa has been stopping by. And we're guessing she hasn't been coming over to play video games or anything.
Plus, we see some bloody bandages fall out of Jason's trash. That's why you need to start buying name-brand garbage bags, Jason!
Emily decides that the only way to stay at Rosewood is to show her mom a letter from the college scout, promising her a scholarship if she stays. So Emily forges a new letter to make it seem like a guarantee. In the eleventh hour, Emily chickens out of sending the forged letter, but "A" intervenes and leaves it for Emily's mom anyway. And how exactly did "A" manage to reconstruct the letter that Emily had torn up? Even Criss Angel would be impressed. (We were!)
Aria gets to her pottery class and realizes that Jenna (Tammin Sursok) is in it, too. Uh-oh. So Aria calls herself "Anita" and gets Jenna to share emotional secrets about being blind, until Jenna realizes Anita is actually Aria and totally freaks out. As if Aria wasn't already on Jenna's bad side! Plus, Aria and Ezra kiss on the college campus but are spotted by Jackie, who stares at them for so long that we felt like offering Jackie some popcorn so she could really enjoy the show.
Spencer looks behind the toaster and finds Melissa's long-lost wedding ring. (Maybe Melissa was heating up some Pop-Tarts during one of her pregnancy cravings? We don't blame her — the s'mores flavor is awesome!) So Spencer does what all good sisters would do and sells her sister's wedding ring to a pawn shop for a wad of cash. (Aren't the Hastings such a happy family?) Lo and behold, Spencer buys Toby a new truck, leading Toby to say "I love you!" See, ladies — all you have to do to make a guy say the L-word is to buy him a brand new (or, in this case, well-used) vehicle.
Hanna's parents continue their reunion, and Hanna decides to do what she does best: butt in, of course. When she notices that her dad got a reconciliatory text from his fiancee, she deletes it. If this is what most stepdaughters are like, it's no wonder that so many stepmothers in fairy tales turn evil.
Finally, Spencer and the girls follow Melissa out of the house and see that she's meeting with Wren! Say what? Who knew that guy was still in the picture? We see Wren give Melissa something from his trunk, while a shadowy figure in the upstairs window of the Dilaurentis house watches from above. Looks like the two guys with whom Spencer hooked up while they were dating her sister are now teaming up! Watch out, Spence — we think somebody's got an axe to grind!
