How Stana Katic’s Movie, For Lovers Only, Became a Hit!
Stana Katic’s (Kate Beckett) new movie is a hit! Stana recently starred in the Polish brothers' independent movie For Lovers Only, and despite its super-low budget ($0, that is), the movie is harvesting a whole crop of good reviews.
As of this week, For Lovers Only parked itself at No. 2 on the iTunes romance chart and No. 4 on the independent films chart. So far, the flick — which was shot quickly over 12 intense days and did not spend a penny on either production and marketing — has raked in $200,000.
"We wanted to go against everything you typically do when you make a movie, and just put it out and let people find it," said Michael Polish, the film’s director. "It's a movie created from nothing — so the big question is, how far can it go?"
Apparently, that answer is pretty darn far, thanks mostly to Stana’s enthusiastic and loyal fanbase. (Holla!) As soon as she tweeted about the film, tweets and re-tweets about For Lovers Only were coming out at 1,000 or so an hour. The online community embraced the film so rapidly that iTunes decided to release it a day early!
Our only qualm? Due to the film’s nonexistent budget, Stana will walk away with absolutely nada from the film’s success (besides, of course, another notch on her bedpost of success). However, the Polish brothers say that if the movie ever hits theaters — which is a possibility — contracts would be re-worked, and she would def walk away with some cash.
