Oh No! Alex Wong Injures Other Ankle, Will Not Return as All-Star
One of the hottest topics of So You Think You Can DanceSeason 8 has been if Alex Wong, whether as a contestant or an All-Star, will return to the show. His doctors didn’t clear him to participate in Vegas week, making it impossible to compete, but we remained hopeful he would be healthy enough to participate as an All-Star.
Last night, Nigel Lythgoe announced the Season 8 All-Stars on the results show, and Alex’s name was not included on the list of returning SYTYCD alumni. Originally, Alex was to be included as one of the ten All-Stars. Nigel didn’t give the details, but he did mention that Alex suffered another severe injury, eliminating the possibly of his return.
It’s true, and Alex confirmed it himself. Yesterday, he tweeted, “Hi All, it is in fact true. I was dancing and snapped it Saturday night. I just came out of surgery. I am shocked, thanks for your support!”
Saturday night, Alex ruptured his other Achilles tendon at the Step Up 4 audition. It occurred during the same à la seconde jump that gave him his first ruptured tendon, last summer during a Bollywood routine. This fresh injury falls exactly one year and three days later.
His spirits seemed surprisingly high after coming out of his second surgery at Cali’s USC Keck Medical Center. He thanked his fans for their words of encouragement: “Thank you all so much for your support and all your tweets! I love you all and hope I can recover soon to dance again!”
It’s shocking and disappointing to hear the news, especially since it is his other tendon. We all wish Alex a speedy and full recovery and will miss him energy and dancing this season. Hopefully, both of his tendons will heal and he’ll be back in action very soon.
