Mitchell Kelly and Clarice Ordaz Open up About Their Elimination and Support From Remaining Contestants
Now that we’re halfway through Season 8 of So You Think You Can Dance, the eliminations are getting tougher and tougher. This week, Mitchell Kelly and Clarice Ordaz were sent packing after they both failed to rally enough votes from viewers. Mitchell — who was in the bottom for the third time — said of his elimination “I wasn’t shocked at all. It’s reality and America knows what they want. It was a pleasure just doing my solo.”
However, he was surprised that guest judge Neil Patrick Harris had difficulty connecting to his dance with all-star Melody Lacayanga. “I was surprised. In rehearsal, it was intense. I felt like I did a great job but we really didn't have a storyline, it was more of the feel and look that Tyce [Diorio] was trying to go for.”
Clarice, who found herself in the bottom for the first time this week, revealed, “At this point, all of us are great dancers and I think that anything could have happened and anything did happen. I didn’t expect anything at all, you can’t really expect anything when you’re in that position. I just did my best and went out there and did what I practiced. Being eliminated is sad, but I’m just really looking forward to the tour and being part of the Top 10 is really special to me. I’m really happy.”
Many viewers were surprised to see Mitchell and Clarice sent home since they received little negative feedback from the judges. Mitchell explains, “The judges had to choose. We’re all good dancers.”
Clarice wasn’t as forgiving. “It was a little hard taking that because I always want to better myself but he [Nigel] gave us a great compliment in saying that we were all great.”
Despite their elimination, both dancers remain upbeat and supportive of their fellow contestants. Mitchell revealed, “We will still support each other no matter what … Now I want to see the growth from Jordan and Ricky … Ricky is like a little brother to me.”
Be sure to tune in next Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET to watch the Top 8 perform!
