But don’t expect a repeat of Season 1’s hilarious post-adoption plane ride (though another nod to the classic Lion King moment wouldn’t be so bad). Jesse spilled to E! Online that Cam and Mitch may not adopt this time around. “Are we going to take one of [Mitchell’s sister] Claire's eggs and Cam's sperm and mix them together?” he wondered. “Are we going to foster a child? I think there are a lot of different ways to expand your family.”
However, one person (or more accurately, two) who won’t be around for the family expansion in Season 3 is Lily herself — at least not as we know her now. ABC has posted a casting notice for Lily, who is currently played by straight-faced twins Jaden and Ella Hiller. Season 3 will see the youngest member of the family get chatty and enter preschool. “We can't force this 2½-year-old child to start speaking, and we don't know if the twins who play Lily are inclined toward acting, so maybe we'll cast another older child who can talk and who wants to be an actress to play Lily,” Jesse told E! Online.
Also on Jesse’s Season 3 wish list is an introduction to Gloria’s (Sofia Vergara) equally fiery family in Colombia. “We can have Sophia Loren play Gloria’s mother and have her father be this evil drug lord Colombia type who we’re all afraid of but turns out to be very sweet,” he dished. Hey, we’re in!
Our hope for Season 3? Phil (Ty Burrell) and Claire (Julie Bowen) Dunphy’s nemesis, the evil trick stair, will remain unfixed, because there is nothing funnier than Phil’s reaction when he trips. Every. Single. Time.
Modern Family starts filming Season 3 in August, and the special one-hour premiere will air Wednesday, September 21 at 9 PM EST.
