It's been nearly two years since the diss heard 'round the world, when Julie Bowen (Claire) trashed Modern Family co-star Sofia Vergara (Gloria) on Chelsea Lately. But are these two leading ladies really friends in real life?

In an October 2009 appearance on Chelsea Handler's E! talk show, Chelsea Lately, Sofia botched Julie's last name on air. Chelsea asked her again what Julie's last name was. "Julie Roland?" Sofia answered. Oops. She immediately brushed it off, saying, "I was tricking you. […] Listen, I work with her 24 hours a day, how would I not know her name?"
So when Julie appeared on Chelsea's show a month later, the host took the opportunity to encourage Julie to take some juicy digs at Sofia on air. "I have never had the chance to fly Sofia private and give her jewelry, so my name has no resonance for her," she said. Ooh, burn!
A media scandal followed, and Julie took to Twitter to emphasize that it was all just a joke. "I made a comment on a talk show that was widely misinterpreted about me not getting along with Sofia and the Twittersphere came down on me like a hailstorm," Julie told New York Magazine. "I was so upset because I love, I really love Sofia."
According to Julie, the scandal was over for the ladies before it ever began. "I called her right away, and she was like, 'No, please! It's fine,'" Julie said. "She didn't care! And it was like, if you're fine and I'm fine, why are all these people mad?"
Julie, who even abandoned Twitter due to the drama, still praises Sofia every chance she gets. "What could anyone ever say to Sofia except that she looks phenomenal, always, always, always?!” she told Latina.com.
