It’s Official! L.A. Reid Is the Head of Epic Records
After months of rumors, X Factor judge Antonio "L.A." Reid has finally been confirmed as the new chairman and CEO of Epic Records.
Sony chief Doug Morris made the announcement on July 18. "L.A. repeatedly has proven over the course of his celebrated career that he knows how to develop world-class artistry," Doug said. "We are very happy to have an executive of his talents leading Epic Records as we begin an exciting new chapter of growth for Sony Music Entertainment."
L.A., who left his spot at the top of Island Def Jam Music Group to take a judging role on The X Factor, is excited about his sweet new gig. "I look forward with great enthusiasm to joining the Sony Music family as it affords us the opportunity to build Epic Recordings as the revolutionary music company of tomorrow," he said. "We are deeply committed to discovering and developing the next generation of superstars as well as implementing a fresh and innovative business model."
L.A., who discovered such artists as Usher and P!nk, will be the judge to impress this fall. Sony announced that Epic Records will also be home to select X Factor artists. As far as the rumors of pal Mariah Carey joining L.A. at Epic? That development is still hush-hush, but we'll let you know as soon as we can confirm it.
