Steve is more than just the British Ryan Seacrest — known for his brutal honesty when it comes to his celebrity interviewees, he's one of the most popular television interviewers in England. He also happens to be funny... and not too shabby to look at. The former model has 'fessed up to flings with such Hollywood starlets as Angelina Jolie and Hayden Panettiere.
However, life would have been different if a personal tragedy hadn't struck when he was 19 and living the humble life of a factory worker in Wales. "This was going to be my life and then I sort of accepted it," he told The Daily Mail. "I worked with great people. We'd have a laugh, go out drinking. I've never been someone who has a plan. I just thought that was it."
But after one of his best friends was killed in a biking accident (which Steve witnessed), his life crumbled. Self-destructive behavior followed until a friend finally convinced him to travel the world with him. Upon arriving in Thailand, he was immediately discovered by a scout from Elle magazine, and his modeling career began.
Steve modeled in Asia for three years, but when he tried to continue his career in England, agencies weren’t interested. Then he found out about a new Welsh pop show that was looking for hosts. He auditioned and got the gig. The job led him to T4 on England's Channel 4, where he spent eight years before leaving last fall.
Steve's charisma and chemistry with Nicole Scherzinger, who was originally cast as co-host on X Factor before getting bumped up to judge, helped him land his biggest gig yet.
With his X Factor hosting job, Steve is ready to become a household name in the U.S. "I have been approached about working in the States before, but never felt right about those opportunities, but when The X Factor came up, I leapt at the opportunity," Steve told BBC News. "The ability to work day in and day out with Simon Cowell is a dream come true."
